How People Change | The Road Ahead: Session 5
Where God is taking us.
What are your first thoughts when you hear the word “wedding”?
The constriction of a collar and tie? The uncomfortable pinch of high heels? Crowd anxiety? How about prime rib or wedding cake? Romance? Catching the bouquet?
Rings? Vows?
You are likely to get a variety of answers when asking this question. Some (like my daughter Sadie) almost swoon at the thought of going to such a romantic occasion. Others (like my son Caleb) would rather bolt in the opposite direction screaming, “NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”
Regardless of how you feel about a wedding, it is a picture that you are very familiar with. It is a picture that we see often in our culture. It is also an illustration that we see consistently throughout scripture—Old and New Testaments alike. It is a living, breathing portrait in which God demonstrates His love for and relationship with His people.
As we continue to gaze at the end of the story, we see that the occasion is marked. The tables and place cards are set. The banquet is ready and we are invited—not as a servant or waiter, guest or attendant. We are engaged. We are the betrothed. We are called to this glorious ceremony as the bride to be joined forever with our Righteous Groom.
I love your hearts,
Bryan
