J. SERIES | THE SERVANT KING: Session 5
John 14.1-7
I have been to London, England.
Technically, I have. But I can’t say that I ‘lived’ in London, England. Actually, I can’t even say that I “vacationed” there either. If I am honest, I would tell you that I really saw nothing of London beyond the windows of my plane or the airport terminal.
But technically… I WAS IN London, England.
See, I was only passing through. Amy and I had spent a couple of weeks traveling in Italy with her family. We were traveling back to the United States and were only in London to connect to another flight. We never left the terminal. No tour of the city. No touring Buckingham Palace. No selfies in front of Big Ben. Just a few hours, a meal and departure.
Departure for home.
Our life here on earth is similar. It is not our destination. It is not our home. We don’t have a permanent place here. We are only passing through, spending just a short while before departing for home. As cool as traveling may be, there is nothing better than home.
We join Jesus as He expresses this truth to His friends the disciples. He is departing. He is headed home. He goes to prepare a place for them—for us. As our departure too comes very soon. This is a promise—His promise to us. That His home is OUR home. That where He is, we will be also.
As believers, our place is ultimately with Jesus. We call this Heaven. We call this home.
SUPPER: Pizza supper provided on campus. PLEASE BRING $3.00 to help offset our costs. Thank you!
