ADVENT
A COMMON GROUND CHRISTMAS SERIES:
PART 2
LUKE 1
We have this expectation. It’s a reasonable hope.
It is as certain as the date on our calendar.
We expect that we will break away from the labor of school. We will be united with loved ones. We will feast upon our favorite dishes and desserts. We will enjoy lights and music. And yes, we will give and receive presents that excite our imagination—presents that give us a sense of newness and change.
We have this expectation that, for just a moment, we will be freed from the monotony of our work, from the pressures of our world, and from the darkness of our times.
For a moment we will be rescued by Christmas.
There is no other moment in our culture where the gospel is more on display. There is no other moment on our calendar where the gospel is more in touch with our senses. There is no other moment in our lives where the gospel is more alive in our hearts. So as we approach this certain date, let us join together with our expectation a posture of worship. As we enjoy the goodness of the season and the goodness of the gift, let us celebrate the glory of The Giver.
I love your heart!
