Understanding and Sharing the Gospel: Part 3

God. Man. Jesus. Response.

In our first session together we discussed our challenges with the gospel.  Our lack of a common definition.  Our lack of understanding.  Our lack of application (how do we actually live it out).  Our lack of confidence in sharing it with others.

But we quickly moved forward, to see how the gospel is found in—shaped by—the Scripture.  We looked at the first four chapters in Romans to see how Paul explained in his letter.  We narrowed it down to four words, “God,” “man,” “Jesus,” and “response.”

In our second session, we gave quick definition to “God.”  We defined God as Creator—which means He has absolute and total authority over us His creation.  We described Him as being “ultimate” in His existence, being, knowledge and power.  We also described God as being ultimate in virtue—His moral perfection.  He is completely holy and righteous and able to judge without error.

Tonight, we move to “man.”  We will examine the errors we have when thinking about sin. We will see what sin actually is and the penalty that it deserves.  It is in having the proper understanding of the bad news that is necessary for us to embrace the good news—the gospel of Jesus Christ.
