BRIAN PUCKETT

has served in Collegiate Ministries with the Georgia Baptist Mission Board for four years, as the campus minister at Georgia Southwestern State University. Prior to college ministry, Brian worked for eight years in Youth Ministry, most recently at First Baptist Church in Ty Ty, Georgia. While serving there, he was also a volunteer campus minister at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia. Brian holds a master of divinity degree from Southern Seminary.

OUR THEME:

“There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call—one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” - Ephesians 4:4-6

ONE moment can define history. ONE decision can change a life. ONE person can start a movement. The power of one resounds through Scripture, and by studying ONE, your students will travel through the Word to discover a powerful message that God has for them:

  • There is ONE God

  • ONE way to Him

  • ONE family united under His banner

  • And ONE mission we've been entrusted with

Students will encounter the capital-T truth: There is one God, the creator of the universe and of you and me, and there is no other. And the Bible is 100% clear on the subject: Jesus Himself says no one can come to the one, true God except through Him. And if we come to God through faith in Christ? We’re welcomed into one giant, awesome family of Believers.

Want more great news? We’ve been given one main mission: go and make disciples of all nations!

HOW TO STAY WELL FOR DNOW

It is always our desire to provide a safe and engaging environment for our GBYouth students.  We are especially concerned for keeping our students well during the flu pandemic. Therefore, we are encouraging our parents to assist us in providing for a healthy DNow:

Our Sick Child Policy

First and foremost, please be considerate of other students/families when deciding whether to place a child under our care for the weekend.

In general, students with the following symptoms should remain home:

  • Any fever, diarrhea, or vomiting within 48 hours prior to the DNow event.

  • A flu diagnosis within 5 days prior to the DNow event.

  • Green or yellow runny nose.

  • Eye or skin infections.

  • Other symptoms of communicable or infectious disease.

Students who are observed by our youth leaders to be ill will be separated from other students and the parent or guardian will be contacted to request that the child be picked up as soon as possible that same day.

Requesting Individually Packaged Drinks & Treats

Second, we are asking each student to bring individual drinks - this can be a six pack of soft drinks or small case of bottled water - as well as individually wrapped chips or sweets. We are asking for "individually packaged" items in an effort to reduce the risk of spreading germs through large bags/bowls of goodies.

THE “WHY” BEHIND THE “NOW”: Why we do events like Disciple Now
We take great care in crafting the most engaging events for our students.  Events like DNow provide several benefits for our teens:

Socialization.
First, GBYouth events provide opportunities for healthy, social interaction.  By design, peer connection is most important to the teenage brain.  It is in adolescence that he or she is honing important communication skills, learning teamwork and cooperation, as well as social etiquette.  Events like DNow provide various types of engagement for students to grow together with their friends.

Discipleship
Second and more importantly,  GBYouth events provide opportunities for spiritual refreshment and renewal.  A weekend retreat is just that, a retreat from the day to day—to unplug from the world and plug-in to God.  DNow gives us (leaders) valuable time to connect with your child and encourage them in their walk with The LORD.

Growth.
Finally, our events  are part of our ministry’s missiology, in that, they provide unique opportunities to invite others to enjoy with us in the fellowship of The LORD. (1 John 1.3-4)  Many who have joined our student body over the years were introduced to GBYouth through events such as DNow.
