Thank you for serving!

Thank you for agreeing to serve this year's Rock The Lock!  It is only by your generosity that this event can happen.  Please find the following notes as you pray and prepare for our time together.

The Why:

The Purpose of Rock The Lock (RTL). Events are part of GBYouth's missiology, in that, they provide unique opportunities to invite friends to enjoy with us in the fellowship of The LORD.  (1 John 1.3-4)  We endeavor to provide activities that are super-creative and super-fun where students can share their faith and church family with others.

Schedule:

You may view a copy of our schedule here to get a feel of how the evening will flow.  Specifics (ie. recreation, staff assignments) will be posted closer to time as we have our best gauge of attendance.  The final schedule will be provided for your reference throughout the night via the QR code on your staff lanyard.

Arrival:

Our chaperones are working various shifts so please check your leader email for your individual arrival time.

General responsibilities:

All hands on deck!  While we have unique service roles and assignments for RTL, all event staff share together in the following duties:

Safety and Security:

Creating and maintaining a safe and healthy ministry environment.

This includes:

  • Ensuring students are where they are supposed to be, doing what they are supposed to be doing.

  • Ensuring leaders and students do not engage in unsupervised or unsafe behavior.

  • Ensuring a student is never (privately) alone with a student of the opposite sex.

  • Ensuring an event staff member is never (privately) alone with a student of the opposite sex.

  • Reporting injury or onset of illness (fever, stomach sickness, flu-like symptoms) immediately to the student pastor.

Connection:

Helping students connect to each other and to God.

This includes:

  • Welcoming all students, especially those new to our ministry and campus (hospitality is step one of discipleship).

  • Reinforcing the fun and excitement of the evening. A positive attitude goes along way.

  • Encouraging students who are experiencing difficulty connecting with other students or participating in activities.

Discipleship:

  • Looking for opportunities to encourage students in their faith and have gospel conversations. This is especially important in the time following worship.

  • Correction: Providing grace-filled correction when a student’s behavior or speech is not edifying to The Lord. If you encounter a discipline issue, simply let the youth pastor know and he will handle it for you.

Cleaning:

  • Cleaning and Resetting: Assisting in tidying areas (as we go along) throughout the evening as well as cleaning and re-setting ministry spaces before departure.
